Pinhole Camera Photography

These photographs were taken on various pinhole cameras I constructed for the final project of my Form and Structure 3D class. The project required me to create a methodology to take photographs with these cameras and develop the images with no darkroom or traditional developing chemicals. I created four cameras out of different materials, focal lengths, and pinhole sizes and made my own developer using an alternative process called Caffenol. This consists of washing soda, vitamin C, instant coffee, and warm water. My goal for this project was to develop a pinhole camera and produce clear, interesting compositions with it.

Essence Reliquary

These two pieces are the products of a “Reliquary” project for my Form and Structure 3D class. Instead of creating a traditional reliquary, a holy vessel which typically holds human remains, we were tasked with designing a container to hold our individual essence. The process involved prototyping with scrap material, constructing the reliquary in an online 3D program, and laser cutting the pieces to “reconstruct” it in the physical world. I developed two similar reliquaries to represent my essence and personal growth with its natural ups and downs, captured through the repeating and undulating organic forms. While the shapes grow and contract, its core shape remains the same, showing that while I continue to grow and change, my intrinsic self remains the same. The “box” surrounding these forms represents the pressures and expectations I put on myself, which can either propel or inhibit this growth. Each reliquary is 24 inches in length, 3 inches in width, and 9 inches in height.
